Dharmasthala and Kukke Subramanya yatra from Bangalore
Dharmasthala and Kukke Subramanya are usually done together, and they are usually done wrong in one day. The two temples are 60 km apart on hill roads in the Western Ghats, and Dharmasthala serves free annadana at fixed hours that most groups want to be present for. A single-day attempt means leaving Bangalore before three in the morning and arriving back after midnight. Two days is the honest itinerary, and it opens up Kukke's Sarpa Samskara ritual, which needs a morning slot and cannot be rushed.

Itinerary options
Day 1
Bangalore → Dharmasthala
05:00 departure. Breakfast near Hassan. Reach Dharmasthala by early afternoon, in time for annadana. Manjunatha darshan, Sri Manjusha museum and the Bahubali statue at Ratnagiri Hill. Overnight at Dharmasthala.
Day 2
Dharmasthala → Kukke Subramanya → Bangalore
Early departure for Kukke, 60 km through the ghats. Morning darshan and Sarpa Samskara if booked. Lunch at the temple, then the long drive back via Uppinangady and Hassan. Back in Bangalore late evening.
Optional Day 3
Add Horanadu and Sringeri
Groups already this deep into the Ghats often continue north to Horanadu Annapoorneshwari and Sringeri Sharada Peetham rather than returning to Bangalore. It adds a day and roughly 200 km, and saves a separate trip later.
Recommended vehicles
Ertiga
The smallest vehicle on this site, and the entry point for group travel. Below six people a sedan is cheaper; at six the Ertiga is the only vehicle where nobody sits sideways.
Tempo Traveller 12
The best cost per person of anything on this site. If the group is eight or more and the budget matters more than recliner seats, this is the answer.
Tempo Traveller 17
The workhorse for temple groups and school excursions. Seventeen seats at the lowest per-head cost available anywhere in the fleet.
Urbania 13
The most-booked Urbania. Thirteen recliners, standing headroom and a real boot — the default choice for corporate offsites and wedding-party transport.
Questions we get asked
Can Dharmasthala and Kukke be done in one day from Bangalore?
Physically yes, comfortably no. It is roughly 700 km of driving with two temple visits, most of it on hill roads. You would leave Bangalore by 02:30 and return well past midnight. With elderly passengers or children we will tell you honestly to take two days.
Is there a permit or entry charge for the vehicle?
No interstate permit — both temples are in Karnataka. There are small local parking charges at both, paid at actuals.
Which vehicle for 12 people with luggage for two days?
The 13 seater Urbania. A 12 seater Tempo Traveller carries the people but the overhead racks take soft bags only, and a two-day trip means suitcases. The Urbania has a real boot.
How bad is the ghat road for someone who gets carsick?
The last 90 km is continuous curves. Sit them in the front half of the vehicle, keep a window vent open rather than full AC, and tell the driver — he will pace the curves. The Urbania rides noticeably flatter through the ghats than a Tempo Traveller.
One last thing
One thing groups underestimate: Dharmasthala's annadana hall seats everyone regardless of numbers, so a group of seventeen does not need to plan a restaurant. Build the day around the meal hours and the trip organises itself.
